Missionary Update 09/14/2015

We greatly enjoy being able to share with you what God is doing in the church plant in Santiago and towards the end of this letter, I will share that with you. However, first I would like to share a special prayer need very close to our hearts. One of the most difficult aspects of missionary life is knowing that a day will come when our kids will leave home to return to the United States. Such is the case for Tiffany and I as our oldest son, Brenden, has returned to the US to pursue his university degree. We are grateful to the Lord for the years we have had Brenden with us on the mission field, but we also real-ize that it was time for him to pursue what God has put upon his heart. Perhaps, God will call Brenden to the mission field one day, but for now, God has led him back to the US to pursue a degree in computer science. We thank the Lord Brenden arrived back in the US without problems. He will be living with family members while attending the university. Please pray with us that Brenden would be faithful to the Lord. We invest time in teaching and training our kids to follow the Lord and make wise decisions. But the world wants to offer them another way of living and those temptations are strong, especially to an 18 year old. Pray with us that he would be faithful in attending church as well as serving as he has done over the years in our church plants in Santiago. Secondly, pray that Brenden would adjust to the US culture. He has not leaved in the US for 16 years. When a child leaves the mission field to return to the US, they are entering a new culture of which they know very little. The language is different, the way people interact is dif-ferent, the way of life is different. Often times, it can be very overwhelm-ing to an 18 year old. Pray that God would help him adjust. Thirdly, pray with us that God would help Brenden with his studies. College can be very intimidating for kids straight out of high school. Pray with us that he would be faithful in his class attendance as well as do well in those classes. We thank the Lord that He provided Brenden with scholarships and grants that are sufficient to cover his first full year of school. We are thankful this takes away the financial burden for him. Please pray that God would continue to provide in this area. Lastly, please pray that God would open the door for Brenden to get a good part-time job. One that will allow him to be faithful in church and that will allow him to fulfill his responsibilities regarding his schooling. While, he does not have many expenses, he will need to pay for gas and insurance for his vehicle as well as pay for food. Regarding the work in Chile, during the month of August, we had a special Sunday called “Día del Niño” — “Kid’s Day.” Every year, the second Sunday of August in Chile is kids day. The entire Sunday morning service was geared for kids. A puppet stage was assembled and the puppets led the service. Even the preaching was geared for the children. It is important to invest our time and resources in our kids as they are the future leaders and pastors of our churches. Pray with us that God would continue to grow our children’s ministry, not just numerically but also spiritually.
