Dear Pastor and Church family: March 30, 2024 We send you warm greetings from the Dominican Republic. We are so thankful that, just as Jesus sent His disciples to a lost in dying world upon His resurrection, He has also sent my wife and me to serve Him in the Dominican Republic. “Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.” (John 20:21) On January 16, 2024, there was a terrible fire in our home. Since the house was made mostly of block and cement, it was not completely lost, like it would have been in the states, since the houses there are made out of wood and sheet rock. Praise the Lord, although my wife almost got stuck on the second floor during the fire, she was able to get out. After the fire, because of different issues with the administration of the house, we were forced to have to move. It was very hard to find a home that we felt would be safe and close enough to our church. But, praise the Lord, He gave us another house to rent! We moved into it and have been sleeping in it now for three nights. It is much closer to our church than we have ever been before, and close to stores, and pretty much anywhere we would need to go. Thank you so much for your prayers during these last couple of extremely hard days for us. We are also so very thankful for those who sent us special offerings to help us with the fire damage and other issues with the abrupt move. A couple of weeks ago, Bro. Gary Sprunger, our Director for the Caribbean with BIMI, came with Pastor Mike Whitt, from the New Life Independent Baptist Church, of Hurdle Mills, NC, and a group of men from his church, to be with us to help us lay the foundation for our new Sunday School building. We were able to get a lot accomplished, and we thank them so very much for their great help. For the next phase of the project we are praying that the Lord would provide us with $20,000 to get the walls up and the ring beam on the building. Praise The Lord burdened many churches to partner with us and they have donated money for the land miracle. Thanks to all who prayed, gave and encouraged us in this pursuit. Hayden and Tony are going through discipleship. It is exciting to see their hunger for the Word of God. We had 4 visitors last Sunday. Praying they return to church. Darleen has been back at least 3 times. So grateful to the Lord. Prayer Our first youth group is headed to the Wilds for camp. Praying the Lord gets a hold of their hearts. Looking forward to 4 baptisms on March 17th. Please pray for Hayden, Honey, Yahney, and Shannon. We now have 35 days left for the contract deadline for the purchase of the land. Please pray God’s will may be done and that we are able to get the remaining money to complete the purchase. Our first music conference is on April 6th and 7th. We want the Lord to help our church understand the importance of godly music both in worship and our personal lives. Again as I close this letter, I want to focus on the second part of Psalm 145: 3b-5 to be reminded, “and his greatness is unsearchable. One generation shall praise thy works to another, and shall declare thy mighty acts. I will speak of the glorious honour of thy majesty, and of thy wondrous works.” Trusting the Lord fully for His will and way, With grateful heart. FEB 2024 Dear Church, Rain, rain, and more rain is what we are experiencing here in Clatsop County. It has been this way for months. Even Portland has clear skies in the forecast today as I write this letter, but Astoria started with snow, followed by rain, and (you guessed it) more rain! I don’t complain about the rain because I love the greenery here in this most beautiful corner of God’s creation. The trade is worth it! Thank you for praying for us, reading our letters, and supporting the work financially. A young Coastguardsman returned to us after spending a few months at sea. Before he left, he coordinated with the Coastguard chaplain and volunteered to handle the religious services on the cutter under the authority of Anchor Baptist Church. He originally planned to be with us for a total of 4 years but recently received word that his cutter will be decommissioned. This means they are sending him somewhere else after serving here less than a year, and most of that time was spent at sea. I plead with you to plead with the Lord on his behalf, and ours! The Coastguardsman submitted a request to be assigned to one of two new boats that will be stationed here. He has a chance of getting that assignment, but not a good chance. Please pray fervently and frequently that God will keep him here with us at Anchor Baptist Church. This dear brother has been a great encouragement to us, and he says Anchor Baptist has helped him grow much stronger as a Christian as well. We are thankful for the Bibles that were sent, and we have distributed them to some very gracious elderly people. One lady received a Bibles who has been attending for quite some time. She was taken to the hospital a few weeks ago, so I went to visit her, and she was in great spirits. A day later she was sent back to the care center, and I am sad to say that her prognosis is not good. Thursday evening, I went back to pick up some people from the care center for church and I stopped in to visit this dear lady. She apologized several times for not being able to attend church with me. My heart goes out to her, and I am so amazed at her strong desire to be in church despite her deteriorating condition. Please pray that God will comfort her. A few months earlier I had a great conversation with her, and I am confident she knows Jesus as her Saviour! Winning souls, baptizing people, and adding them to the church so we can teach them is the formula we find in God’s Word for church planting. The Bible doesn’t mention an Old-Fashioned Gospel Tent Meeting specifically, but there are a lot of tents in the Bible, and the Gospel is certainly in there as well! I believe the Lord laid the tent meeting upon my heart and he has always provided a way for us. Last year we took a break because we expected to move into a store-front building and moved into the Shilo instead. We really want to hold the meeting this year and we have people coming from far away to help us. The problem is, I haven’t heard from the owner of the property yet. Time is running short for me to submit the paperwork needed for our permits. Will you please pray that I hear back from the owner of the property within the first week of March? Pray for God’s direction as we might need to consider another venue or even canceling the meeting. It’s still raining here so don’t forget to pray for some sunshine too! Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, What a rollercoaster church planting and ministry can be! Praise the Lord that He never changes though! February turned out to be a very encouraging month, especially coming off December and January’s report. One of the first things I want to mention is that we have a new family that started coming this month, the Gonzaleses. The father, Matthew, grew up Baptist, and almost went to West Coast Baptist College but instead went to a Bible school in Mexico for a year. He even used to go soul winning with his pastor back in the day. He says that he hasn’t been going to church for most of the time he’s lived in Utah, but now wants to get back to church. He’s married and has three kids. This man has been coming to every service, and his family has recently started coming to everything too. They just had us over for dinner last night and we had a wonderful time with them. Next, we did a miniseries on missions this month, and our people were astounded and impacted and want to get involved in missions. They said that they never knew of the need around the world and have never really heard about missions. There’s even one young man who said he’s praying about if the Lord would have him to be a missionary. Lastly, church attendance in February has almost returned to where it normally was before December. We have children once again in our church, and we have people glad to be learning the Word of God. On March 3, we’re going to be having our 1-year anniversary. It is a big day for us, so please be praying. We’re going to have my former youth leader from Moab Baptist Church, Dean Dalton, preach, then afterwards we’re going to have a potluck. Lastly, we’re going to have two men who’ll be baptized that day. The hotel wouldn’t let us do it there, so we’re going to a nearby lake to do the baptisms. The forecast says that is might snow, but it seems that these two men would prefer snow and cold, for when I mentioned it could be snowing, they got excited. Joell, one of the men getting baptized, will become our first official member (besides my wife and me) of Hobble Creek Baptist Church. I sense that his brother might soon follow and then the rest of the family as well. All we can do is praise the Lord for His provision and sovereignty. He’s working on hearts and sending people our way and putting us in the right spots at the right time. If you could be praying for this Spring, because we have a lot planned and a lot going on, such as special services, guest speakers, a canvassing group coming down to help us out, as well as other things. Also, if you could be praying for my wife and her pregnancy, that’d be much appreciated. They’re both healthy right now and everything seems to be going smoothly. Again, she’s due June 10. Lastly, pray for me as I go door-to-door, that I’d be able to reach more people. I’m excited to start getting out there every day again once the snowy weather is all gone. Dear Prayer Partners, The sun is shining today and it is a welcomed sight here in Germany. We don’t see the sun much from October to March because of weather, short days and other issues. We are thankful not only for the physical sun but the spiritual Son as well. It is such a blessing to be able to serve Him here in Germany. February was a blessed and fun month as we welcomed our newest member baby Sofia to our church services and each of us got turns loving on her and her parents. Please keep Mae and Ross in prayer as they also welcomed a baby boy a couple months early and are dealing with jaundice and other issues. We had a great time at our men and lady’s bible studies that have been combined into one Saturday because the busy military schedules many have. The men did breakfast and devotion, and the women did lunch and Bible Study. It was a good time of fellowship and digging into Gods word. Sheila and I also celebrated 28 years of marriage on the 14th. So thankful we get to do life and serve the Lord together. Sheila and Michael have also been busy within the American homeschool community; there are many classes to participate in. Sheila was asked to teach Elementary Bible Education and one point she had 18 children attend her class. Several families have attended church service because of the class and at least one family is interested in joining. Sheila has been asked to teach Elementary Bible again and maybe some other classes for the next term. The Lord has been so good and we have had many first time as well as returning visitors over the last few weeks. Please continue to pray for church and personal growth, for Patrick as he goes on a short four-week furlough in the Washington/Oregon area the end of April and beginning of May, Sheila and Michael who are staying back in Germany, and for God to continue to give us opportunities in our community to be a light for Him.
